About the Company:
Established in early 2019, this company specializes in the development, design, financing, construction, ownership, and operation of utility-scale energy storage projects across the United States. Based in Arlington, VA, they collaborate with utilities and major energy consumers to implement advanced, value-driven energy storage and clean energy solutions.
Role Overview:
In this position, you will take charge of interconnection strategy and execution at both transmission and distribution levels. Your responsibilities will include overseeing interconnection studies, ensuring timely submission of applications, and guiding projects through the study process to construction and commissioning. This critical role is both independent and collaborative, involving close coordination with teams in analytics, origination, development, engineering, and construction. Key Responsibilities:
Strategic/Qualitative:
- Conduct regular interconnection reviews as part of the leadership team and recommend new strategies.
- Monitor interconnection policy reforms at state and federal levels, advising leadership on relevant changes.
- Serve as the internal expert on interconnection processes across various markets, focusing on cost, scheduling, and strategic implications.
- Evaluate interconnection aspects for potential acquisitions of development assets with existing positions.
- Manage existing and new interconnection queue positions and associated utility interactions.
- Provide interconnection training sessions as needed for different teams.
Technical:
- Run power flow models and assess interconnection potential, coordinating with third-party contractors as necessary.
- Develop or coordinate the creation of plant models for interconnection applications using tools like PSSE, PSCAD, and ASPEN.
- Analyze and sensitize models based on contingent facilities and commercialization potential for other queued projects.
- Apply knowledge of substation design, general electrical engineering principles, protection, and interconnection communications equipment.
- Coordinate the design and construction of interconnection infrastructure with project construction, commissioning, and financial analysis teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience
Preferred Skills:
- Technical expertise combined with a strategic industry perspective
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Capacity to make informed decisions with limited data and under pressure
- Familiarity with the electric utility industry, energy markets, and interconnection processes with RTOs and utilities
Location:
Preference for candidates who can work from our Arlington, VA headquarters. Remote work may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
